U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration Returns to Normal Enforcement Operations Following Hurricane MichaelAtlanta, GA - - (January 28, 2019) - - Today, the U.S. Department of Labor published the following information:

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has resumed normal enforcement operations throughout Florida following Hurricane Michael.

In the storm's immediate aftermath, OSHA had ceased programmed-planned enforcement inspections in all impacted areas, and deployed safety and health professionals to assist employers and workers involved in recovery operations to eliminate serious hazards. OSHA's response in both Georgia and Florida provided safety and health technical assistance to more than 2,700 workers, and on-site interventions removed more than 1,300 workers from serious hazards.

OSHA will continue to provide assistance as requested to mitigate remaining hazards. Employers and employees working in this area may call OSHA's toll-free hotline at 800-321-OSHA (6742) or visit the agency's website to reach Florida representatives who can provide on-site assistance.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees. OSHA's role is to help ensure these conditions for America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards, and providing training, education and assistance.
