Secretary Michael R. Pompeo met on January 30 with Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne. The two lauded the vitality of the bilateral alliance, including our mutual efforts to promote a free, open, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific. The Secretary and Foreign Minister coordinated on our top foreign policy goals, including achieving a fully denuclearized North Korea and plans for President Trump and Chairman Kim to meet at a second Summit. The Secretary and Foreign Minister also updated each other on our joint efforts to support growth and development through private-sector-led infrastructure investment in the Indo-Pacific region. The two exchanged information on developments connected to the planned, phased withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria now that the ISIS Caliphate has been defeated. Both sides underscored their resolve to continue the campaign to completely eradicate ISIS in the Core and its global network of extremists. The Secretary will lead a ministerial of global partners against ISIS on February 6.
