Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met today with Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir. The Secretary thanked the Minister for Saudi Arabia’s continued partnership with the United States across many regional and bilateral priorities. On Yemen, the Secretary and the Minister reiterated their support for UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths’ efforts to advance the political process, and the need for the Republic of Yemen Government and the Houthis to swiftly implement agreements made in Sweden. The Secretary and the Minister also discussed Syria, progress on the Middle East Strategic Alliance, countering the Iranian regime’s dangerous activities, and human rights. The Secretary and the Minister agreed on the importance of Saudi Arabia continuing its investigation into the murder of Jamal Khashoggi in a credible and transparent manner, and holding all of those involved accountable.
