Gasoline Crisis Intensifies in Some North Carolina Areas

Greensboro, NC - - - Gasoline shortages have spread to many areas in the Piedmont Triad. Gasoline stations in both Greensboro and High Point are covering their pump nozzles and posting signs explaining their lack of fuel. Some motorists are driving from station to station trying to find fuel. The tell-tale sign of "No fuel" is the covered pump nozzle. One station had "yellow-taped off" most of its pumps. Another station had just closed and turned the lights off.

A few stations have gasoline but they tend to be the ones whose gasoline brands are in less demand. One major "brand name" gasoline station had supplies of its highest grade and the attendant said that when those 500 gallons ran out they would probably not have any more gas of any type until this Thursday. He said that he has been told that after Thursday things should get back to normal but even he was not sure that the projection was reliable.

Another "name brand" station's attendant said that they filled their tanks today. He refused to speculate on what the future would bring.

Prices as high as $3.09 were observed posted outside one "name brand" station.

According to rumors, the shortages are caused by a damaged pipeline.
