    It was on a very snowy January 6, 1850 that Charles Spurgeon, cold and miserable, stumbled into a small church on Artillery Street, Newtown, Colchester (Essex) in Britain. It was so snowy until the preacher did not make it to church; rather, a seemingly almost illiterate stand-in "non-preacher" filled in and read and spoke from Isaiah 45:22.
